A figure is reduced to a head with coloured spots, a brown striped jumper and a pale hand. The spots seem to reflect the mental state, the character's thoughts. The figure looks outside and sees the typical ‘Raveelian’ silhouettes of the tree and the pole by the cornfield behind the painter's house. The blue outlined window might as well depict a painting. Raveel employs a classic pictorial trick: the painting within the painting.
