Roger Raveel

Self-reflection

In 2006, Raveel, then already 85 years old, created an installation entitled ‘Introspection’. He had four panels mounted in pairs and painted them. There is a chair between the two pieces on which the visitor can sit: he or she becomes part of the artwork, especially when he or she sees himself or herself appear in the mirror opposite the chair. The artist invites us to engage in self-reflection both literally and figuratively in the contemplative peace of his painting, which, as is typical of his later works, is fleeting, ethereal, in soft colours.
