Landscape

1948 was a particularly productive year for Roger Raveel, then aged 27. This period marked a turning point in his artistic development. The works from those years reveal the first characteristics of his own visual language. He painted numerous small works on hardboard, an affordable alternative to the more expensive canvas. Inspired by rural life, Raveel developed a synthetic view of reality using bright colours and simplified forms. Objects are reduced to their essence, with great attention paid to the overall atmosphere.
