Man with wire in garden

In this work, Raveel plays extensively with the tension between the concrete and the abstract. The taut zigzag line of the iron wire seems, as it were, to continue into the shaded hands. The face is not fully rendered, but is built up from coloured patches. The shadow cast by the brown cap also contributes to this: it prevents the face from being clearly recognisable. The result is an image that is both tangible and unsettling. The interplay of complementary and contrasting colours further heightens this tension.
