Roger Raveel in Huis De Leeuw

The Roger Raveel Museum will remain under construction until June 2026, and in the meantime, the museum collection is travelling around the country. However, from 21 November to 7 December 2025, a special preview will be presented in the painter's birthplace. Roger Raveel in Huis De Leeuw will display around twenty works that have rarely or never been seen by the public – originating from the living rooms and private collections of Raveel's fellow locals.

The exhibition offers a surprising selection from Raveel's oeuvre: from a modest village view from 1938 to a fascinating ceramic owl to his characteristic visual language in later paintings and graphics. Of course, Machelen plays a leading role in many of the works: you will recognise the Machelen mill and the high-voltage pylon, the tower behind a cornfield, the houses and their inhabitants. The personal stories behind the works also come to life in this exhibition. Together, they paint a portrait of a village and of the completely unique way in which Raveel captured reality in his art.
