13. The Posts of the Unlimited
The post appears as a motif in almost all of Raveel's paintings and drawings. As a typical vertical element, it helps to determine the composition of the image.
The Posts of the Unlimited are sculptures designed by Raveel that can be found in four locations in the village. Each pole is painted in his typical colour palette, has a reflective element and seems to merge into the sky at the top. For Raveel, the posts are a symbol: nothing is impossible as long as you believe in it yourself. They are also signposts leading to the Raveel Museum.
The first post is located at the corner of Rijksweg and Dorpsstraat, the second is here on Georges Jozef Imschootplein, and the third is at the entrance to the museum. The closer you get to the museum, the shorter the posts become.
A fourth post is located in the museum's courtyard garden and is not strictly speaking a Post of the Unlimited. The sculpture is entitled This is currently the centre of the universe for you and dates from 1978. It used to stand in Raveel's own garden. However, Zulma was not satisfied with it and wanted a pole with colours, like the Poles of the Unlimited. Roger then made a fifth pole, with colours, which is still in the garden of the house on Hoevestraat.
