On both artistic and human levels, 1948 marks a new start for Raveel: he marries Zulma De Nijs and his work undergoes an intense evolution. Raveel had a difficult period behind him. He processed the death of his mother in 1946 with difficulty.
From 1948, Raveel wants to look at his surroundings with fresh eyes. It becomes a productive year. Numerous paintings were created, rather limited in format: landscapes, Zulma in her daily activities, still lifes, ... In these, a synthetic view of reality stands out above all. Things are reduced to their essence, without abstracting them. In the mood of the whole, Raveel makes visible the plastic and spatial relationships between the various elements: Raveel lets the individuality of and contrast between things speak in bright colours.
