Roger Raveel
Look, a person
Oil on canvas and mixed media, 195 x 145 x 153 cm
1986
In Raveel's work, mirrors unequivocally annex the environment, the viewer, time. When he paints a brusque smudge on the edge of the mirror, he connects it to the rest of the canvas or the object and at the same time affects the reflected reality pictorially. In this way, he explicitly initiates a dialogue between art and reality. Raveel calls this ‘the blending of the painting into its surroundings’.
