Procession

1986
In 1978, Raveel got the idea to invite a number of painters to hold a parade through the streets of Machelen-aan-de-Leie with a painting attached to a stick. When asked about the purpose of the action, the artists would deliberately withhold the answer. In the end, the painting parade did not take place. Raveel then turned his idea into a large-scale painting: The 1978 painting parade in Machelen-aan-de-Leie, a canvas that is part of the collection of the Museum Arnhem. A folder of five screen prints from 1979 was also inspired by it. This 1986 drawing seems to be a kind of reminiscence or 'after-study'. Raveel often repeats or reinterprets the same themes in his oeuvre.
