Roger Raveel

Scenic glow

Between 1955 and 1963, Raveel sets out to depict the vital and luminous power of nature’s colours. To this end he chooses subjects such as bushes, trees, grassy fields or the surfaces of bodies of water. The experience of the organic aspect of the subject is transformed into the experience of the painting. In this so-called ‘poetic-abstract’ period, Raveel’s touch becomes more spontaneous and direct, his colours brighter.
